Bat Jew… Nanananana Nana Naaa… BATJEW!

There’s something nice about having a whole day where you simply do nothing.

So I got my hair cut a few days ago… its pretty short. I decided to follow the advice of the fine people at “Great Cuts” and try putting something in my hair… so now I have this waxy substance that I use to give it a messy-spikey look which I’ve gotten a few compliments on. I figure if I do it enough times it’ll just become a habit, like taking my keys with me everywhere I go.

Still no luck on getting the dual-monitor setup to work… the information I’m finding on the web is leading me to believe that nVidia motherboards (the one I’m using) only work with nVidia video cards (one of the two I’m trying to use). I’ve seen some hacks and drivers to work around it, but haven’t felt like going through quite that much effort.

I have, however, been playing with iPhoto. I only have about 90 photos in my iPhoto Library, but I’ve got them all labeled and commented. Unfortunately, I’m not sure that the comments will carry over if I send them to someone, or copy them to another comp. Hopefully someone will write a little utility to do that for me :o)

School starts… holy crap, school starts next monday! Ew. Spent $200 on books, and apparently tuition has been raised again… now its $26/unit! It was $11 just one short year ago… Thanks for leaving a lasting legacy Gray Davis. *sigh*

I hope I can do well this semester… I need to bring my GPA up… I’m taking this Unix class (a different one… “Intro to Unix”) which I’m hoping will be actually based on Unix, and not Linux. Sadly, from looking over the textbook, it looks more basic than any Unix class I’ve taken so far. So now I’m left with the dilemma. Do I take this class, when going into it I’m fairly sure I won’t learn anything, but maybe improve my GPA? Or look for another class thats more interesting/challenging? I think I’ll check the catalogue later, and see what else I might be able to take instead, just in case. There’s a video game programming class…

In closing, I want these shirts.

a short description or heading

So.

Err… Entry. I’m in San Jose, at my mom’s house. Up here for my cousin Tony’s weddin’. Well, thats the excuse I’m using anyway.

Really, it makes for a good reason to see the famn damily. And to visit Apple’s Corporate office!

Yeah, thats right. San Jose is right next to Cupertino, as I’m sure I’ve mentioned before. So this trip, mom made plans for us to go visit. So visit we did. They have an Apple Store there! So mom bought me an Apple shirt! So now I have an Apple shirt.

I also took some pictures for the fun of it, but I can’t seem to connect to my home computer right now, so I can’t post them, so you’ll have to wait.

In the meantime, I’ve got a wedding to get ready to go to, and Mel wants the computer.

Oh, and a name has been proposed for the fruit/car smushing game: Squishy. Although I also like Squishy-Smooshy

I think it’d make a good olympic sport

Ok.

New game idea.

You take 2-3 people, an empty lot and a car. And a basket of food (preferably ~baseball sized).

The game is pretty simple. Its a lot like skeet shooting.

So anyway. You designate one person as driver, one person as thrower, and optionally one person as watcher. The driver starts driving at a decent speed. Then the thrower takes a piece of food (a bagel, banana, apple, orange, something thats fairly solid, and easy to throw) and throws it as hard as he can ahead of the car. Then the driver does his best to try and run over said piece of fruit. The optional watcher then scores the driver, based upon whether or not the fruit was hit so you could find out who has the best aim with their car.

portiyos is coming

yay, portiyos is coming!

wow, and I thought I was lame, you people aren’t updating very often!

So am I the only one excited about Doom 3? And sadly also entirely unable to afford it and its associated system upgrades. After seeing some stuff John Carmack has said I’m not so sure my GeForce4 MX is going to be up to the task.

I suppose I can wait a few months to buy it… see what other people have to say about how much it abuses hardware… maybe by that time the video card I’m eyeing will drop from $80 to say… $8. Heh. Right.

Meanwhile, I’m starting to get antsy due to my not having a book to read at night. I may be forced to start the Wheel of Time all over again if I can’t find something else to fill the void.

Yeah, I’m totally tired.

forgot to hit enter.

I should mention that there is two lead singers in that last song… a guy and a girl.

Anyway. The other day was teh suck. Apparently the outlet our fridge is plugged into stopped working… so all our food n such melted/spoiled/what have you. It apparently works if plugged into a different outlet. Yes, I flipped the breakers.

So thats sorta been the straw that broke the lumpy-backed smelly horse-like creature’s spine. So we’re looking for a new place, possibly in Ramona, which might be nice… cuz its cheaper, and closer to most peeps, but not too far from school/work.

Nothing Better.

I was going to just post part of the lyrics, but.. it just didn’t feel right.

Nothing Better – The Postal Service.

Will someone please call a surgeon

Who can crack my ribs and repair this broken heart

That your’re deserting for better company?

I can’t accept that it’s over…

I will block the door like a goalie tending the net

In the third quarter of a tied-game rivalry

So just say how to make it right

And i swear i’ll do my best to comply

Tell me am I right to think that there could be nothing better

Than making you my bride and slowly growing old together

I feel must interject here you’re getting carried away feeling sorry for yourself

With these revisions and gaps in history

So let me help you remember.

I’ve made charts and graphs that should finally make it clear.

I’ve prepared a lecture on why I have to leave

So please back away and let me go

I can’t my darling I love you so…

Tell me am I right to think that there could be nothing better

Than making you my bride and slowly growing old together

Don’t you feed me lines about some idealistic future

Your heart won’t heal right if you keep tearing out the sutures

I admit that I have made mistakes and I swear

I’ll never wrong you again

You’ve got a lure I can’t deny,

But you’ve had your chance so say goodbye

Say goodbye

Ahh, but where’s the Syllable Port?

I like Turn-Based Strategy games. Like em a lot. I think this is reflected in the way I play Real Time Strategy games. I tend to play RTS’ like I have all the time in the world to pick my actions, weigh the pro’s and con’s.

Sadly, they’re not one of the more popular game Genres out there… you can’t really just go to the local EB or Gamestop to pick of a TBS. In fact, most TBS’ are fairly old (Fantasy General, Master of Monsters, Panzer General, etc). I guess this sort of plays into my Retro-gaming love, too.

So imagine my surprise when I stumbled across this gem! Wesnoth is an open source TBS. Cross platform, too! And not just “Works on Win9x *and* Win2k” cross platform, oh no. And not just Windows *and* Mac. Hell, not even just Windows, Mac, and Linux. No my friend, this game runs on: “Windows, MacOSX, Linux, FreeBSD and even lowly little BeOS”. Thats hardcore.

Anyway. It’s not completed yet, but its crash/bug-free (I haven’t noticed any in the past month on my 3 test platforms). Essentially all thats left is ending the storyline of the main campaign, minor tweaks to the game for balance, and adjustments to multiplayer. It’s easily worth downloading and playing.

But hell, in my opinion, if it runs on windows without crashing, and it doesn’t install spyware, its worth trying. Especially since you can keep it in a window and still be on aim/irc/mozilla/whatever.
