Fuck today

FSCKING WINDOWS! I had almost a whole damn journal entry up and ready to post, and then windows pops up with a fscking error: ‘You have insufficient memory to continue running mozilla.exe’ followed shortly by a blue screen of death… and then it rebooted. Nevermind that I have 768 Meg of RAM!

so I’m fscking installing linux. I’ll try again later.

McCain in 2004

Heh, how did I know Chris was going to be the only person objecting to my latest entry…

Go ahead and skip this part if you aren’t interested. Look for the italics.

Anyways, Never intended to say that Republicans and Democrats are all slime, just that the vast majority of politicians seem to be. The Greens (and I believe the Libertarians) aren’t simply because thats the whole point of their existence. For example, the Green party doesn’t take money from corporations for funding – all of it comes from individuals. This leaves little room for corruption.

To be sure, there are some very highly esteemed Republicans and Democrats notably Senator of Arizona John McCain (a republican). There’s a man who I’d vote for. I even contributed to his presidential campaign in 2000. Also another senator, who’s name I’ll have to look up later.

As far as the mathematics of voting goes… I don’t look at it that way. I see myself supporting a 3rd party candidate for one or two reasons. 1) It’s a vote of conscience. 2) In the last presidential election, the Green Party played a huge role in who got elected. Millions of votes were taken from the democratic party (for the most part). This clearly means the Democrats aren’t Democratic enough for those millions of voters, so they chose the more democratic – the Greens. This should make the democrats become more intuned with what the Green Party wants – if they don’t want Bush for 4 more years, they ought to listen a little closer to win back some Green Party votes.

No offense taken, of course. Live and let live.

the rest of you can come back now

Sorry bout that. Anyways. The wide world of me…

is rotating fairly slow.

Baby Anthony was born a few days ago; the house is fairly quiet right now (the calm before the storm) with Justin, Kristal, and Jillian out of the house.

Apple has updated their laptop product line… the iBook and the PowerBook are insanely sweet deals right now. The PB even comes with a DVD-Burner – silliness!

Mom leaves to go to Sacramento in 2 more days… not sure when I’ll get a chance to go see them in their new house… hell… between work and school, I don’t even know if I’ll get to see her before she leaves.. if you see me looking sad, thats why. I guess Lance was talking about how it was cool that I was going to move to San Marcos, cuz that way I’d be closer to him… GG had to tell him that San Marcos is only about half an hour north of San Diego… he was disappointed

ok, i’m now crying in the middle of the computer lab, so i’m going to go

begin rant

It’s election day – so if you’re the voting type don’t forget to do so! Most of you are Californians, though, and even if you do vote you’re probably not quite sure which is the lesser of two evils (lol, that one is funny) (Bill Simon or current governor Gray “Gay” Davis). Well stop worrying about it! They’re both Evil! (or at least inept) Why not look into voting for Peter Camejo (who is actually doing fairly well, despite being Green) or even Art Olivier (a write-in) if you’re feeling a little Libertarian (click on that link, the prospective Lt. Governor’s picture has him with his Ferret and their Sec of State is a B&W photo, lol).

I guess I’ll I’m trying to say is this: If you look around at politics, and all you see is scum, stop looking at just the Republicrats and start looking around; there’s other options.

Diaryland took a nose dive last night…. we’re all better now, I think. I’m going back to bed, though.

PS: added link to mollie and amber’s diaries.. oh, and if anyone wants me to take theirs off for whatever reason, just lemme know.

teehee

Fsck yeah, math was canceled today. That’s what I’m fsckin talkin about. No kindergarten calculus teacher today!

I also found out today that my first homework in my CS237 class is due on… no… lemme quote the webpage, it’ll be funnier that way. And I do quote:

HOMEWORK #1

CS237, FALL 2002

Due: 11-8-02 Friday (a couple days later will be OK)

teehee! A couple days later… thats precious. He wrote the actual code for the assignment ON THE BOARD IN CLASS, and we can turn it in “a couple days later”. I love this teacher. If you ever have to take a CS class take it with Ivan Bajic.

So since math was canceled, I’ve still got a couple more hours to kill til I get to my CS class… I’ll probably try some programming stuff or something.

In the meantime, ttfn

b0rken ass – potential band name?

Ok, so I’m currently ripping all of my CD’s to .ogg which iTunes now supports! [so Amber, you should try this]. If you wanna try out .ogg (and why shouldn’t you?) and you aren’t using iTunes, you can get the Winamp2 plugin [113k] to play .ogg files, or get Winamp3 (which I most certainly do not recommend – its hella buggy in my experience) and I’ll send you some ogg files. Wanna make your own ogg files? If you’re on windows and you’ve got a cd ripper already, its hella easy. Download the OggDrop [158k] program. Unzip it, then run it. You’ll see a little fish in a small box. All you gotta do is drag some .wav files to it, and it’ll convert them to a .ogg in the same directory. Note: this does not work for mp3’s. Converting from mp3 -> .ogg will not always result in a quality recording. There are ways of doing this, however. Ask and ye shall receive.

Speaking of Apple. I got my free copy of Jaguar from my Uncle Rodney today! But left it at the party, and someone else (likely mom) took it home. So I’ll have to get it later.

Speaking of Lance’s b-day party, it was slightly a bummer in some ways. Lance’s friends sorta almost ditched him at the last minute – not cool. He also didn’t get a whole lot in the way of presents. Not to sound materialistic or anything, but when you’re turning 14, and like 30 of your family members show up, and you only end up with a Carebear to exchange, a DVD, and $10, it could be disappointing. Especially when you’re moving out of town. I dunno. I can’t recall my 14th (it was damn near 7 years ago!?) bday party… I think it was at dad’s house? Maybe not.

Oh well, he seemed to like my DVD (I got him Weird Al’s UHF), and warmed up to the idea of the Carebear once Mollie explained that it was meant as a gag gift for him to exchange.

The party itself was good though. Cake and burgers and hot dogs and games. Me and Mollie played tennis a couple times. I’m definitly not as good as I used to be. Pretty sad. Ah well.

Well, I think I’m gonna call it a night for tonight… so I’ll end it on this note – Mollie’s ass is b0rken.

Here I am

Well, well… Been a couple days, and it looks like everyone’s updated their journals but me… As usual, though, life moves slowly. Not much ever changes for me, but lets see what little things did happen in the past couple days.

So yeah, I’m screwed as far as San Marcos in the spring goes, but now I’m looking into the prospect of transferring there in the fall of next year, and taking some classes at Palomar in the spring. They actually offer some really cool sounding classes in CS – besides offering the usual JC classes in Word, XP, and Visual Basic, they also offer classes in Perl, SQL, Game Design, TCP/IP Programming, Unix, Advanced Networking, Hardware Repair – and these aren’t just classes in the catalogue… they’re all offered this coming spring semester! Definitly interesting…

In other college news, I got my 2nd ever SDSU Offical Parking Ticket on Halloween. Didn’t have my parking permit displayed. Bastards. Also, turns out I was right all along… my math teacher *is* dumb. She gave us a test that was about 45 minutes too long, then basically told us all it was our problem. Gee thanks. Found out she used to teach Elementary school before teaching at SDSU. Shocking. I was dumbfounded. It was all I could do to not burst out laughing. Her words: “I’m sure some of you will be surprised, but I actually taught elementary school before coming here.” Yeah. Big surprise there. *sigh*

Work was interesting today. And yesterday for that matter. One thing I really don’t like is when people don’t do their job. Juan seems to be more guilty of this than most. Today Juan was in fish, reading a book on Home Electrical Wiring. While I cleaned, misted, watered, bagged, and basically did everything he should have been doing. Then when our inventory came in, I had to go do that, so I left. Generally people take lunch in the order of who’s been there the longest that day. So Juan comes in at 4:30, an hour after myself and Holly, and 4 hours after Lyndsey, notices that we don’t have a regular Manager On Duty (it was Amber subbing in) so he takes advantage of the situation and asks to go on lunch… before the rest of us. Amber lets him, not knowing.

That was a tad rude, but not what bothered me. What bothered me was that when he went on lunch, he was supposed to send *me* to fish… but instead he sent Jerry. Jerry is a very nice guy who is mentally handicapped that works at PetCo. Loves working in Fish. Is, unfortunately, terrible at it. So rather than doing his job and finding me to send me to Fish, he finds Jerry and sends him. Like I said, Jerry isn’t meant for fish. About 10 minutes after Juan goes on lunch I get called there by Amber (who just found out that Juan never sent me) to go there. And I found about 20 customers irate because Jerry was getting the wrong fish, not bagging them tightly so that they leaked, dropping fish and accidently stepping on them, and all sorts of other unpleasant things. Chaos. All because Juan just doesn’t care. Frustrating. Oh, and he also left an hour early, leaving me to finish closing fish.

Anyways. Halloween sure had its fair share of retarded customers…. from they guy who wanted 600 small crickets in a used (but empty) 2 liter of diet coke (with no lid) cuz he was driving to Mexicali (and a bag would most certainly not be good enough for that, apparently) to the guy who wanted live food for his super fish that was the end all be all of fish with millions of stories about said fish to back that claim up. He had me bag up 30 or so baby snails (the size of the head of a nail) and 10 baby molly’s (bout twice that size, and hella fast). He took about 30 minutes of time to handle. It wasn’t busy, but like I told Mollie and Chelle later, “It was like someone had left the moron faucet on… but just at a trickle.”

Highlight of the night at work was definitly a little girl in a fairy costume coming in.

Judy: “Oh, look what we have here!”

Barbara: “I see a little fairy in our store!”

Josh (*feigned outrage*): “Excuse me, Barbara?”

Just about died laughing. In case you aren’t aware, Josh is gay. Now reread that short snippet again and tell me that isn’t fscking hilarious.

Anywho, time to watch a movie! “From Hell”

Night all.

fsck $D$U

Some people may know that I always seem to dream about PetCo. Is that pathetic? Well, maybe a little. But I have spent a large portion of the past 5 months of my life there…

Well, last night I actually had a nightmare about PetCo. There was me, Kaipo, Judy, Michelle, Victor, Lindsey, Mollie, (who apparently worked there) and…. Mike.

I guess we were expecting the FBI to come in and raid us, like it was load or something. Anyways, so somehow PetCo aquired a backyard, which we were all hiding in. Then the helicopters showed up, flashing spotlights on the yard and Victor stands up and yells, “There he is, he’s got drugs, he’s high all the time!” pointing at Mike. Meanwhile Kaipo is rushing the rest of us inside. She hands us each $2000 and a sample of Nutro and tells us to meet her at Disneyland in 3 days. So me, Michelle, and Mollie take off in my car and drive for Anaheim. We stop at a 7-11 and the cops question us about our Nutro. Apparently a shipment of Nutro had been stolen. While the cop goes back to report it in his squad car, we take off to some hotel in Anaheim, where Mollie and Michelle and I split up. I turn around to see mollie getting in line to buy her ticket to Disneyland with two men in black trenchcoats approaching her.

And that was the end. Have I ever mentioned that I have some really fscked up dreams?

So as I was driving to pick up Chris this morning in my usual half-sleeping daze, a cop car comes screaming up behind me at like 70 lights flashing. After that dream, you can imagine I woke up pretty damn fast at that point.

I think I’ve decided on a Halloween costume, though it’ll only be funny if I have to work that night (which I likely do). I’m thinking I want to dress up as a PETsMART employee. I still have to run it by the Powers That Be, of course… and then see if I can find a PETsMART employee willing to switch (or let me borrow) uniforms. We’ll just have to see how that pans out.

In other news… its apparently too late for me to transfer to San Marcos for the Spring semester. This is seriously not good. That changes a lot of plans. It seems like I hate SDSU more and more each day. If it’s not the mascot issue its the construction or the faculty or the students or the parking or the way I can’t walk two feet on campus without running into some idiot on talking on his cell phone, smoking a cigarette.

Maybe if I don’t hate SDSU more and more, I find fewer and fewer reasons to like it. Whats to like about a supremely overcrowded campus, where you have to crash every other class, even though the rooms are already filled to capacity (in some cases causing fire hazards)? Or how bout an Associated Student Body that ignores the opinions and votes of the students, and instead spends its time debating trivial things or passing legislation to make the school more Politically Correct or make changes that benefit them alone (such as building a brand new building that would only serve to house their meeting rooms – and raising tuition to pay for it). How bout a school President that does the same? A school newspaper that publishes articles designed to incite school Alumni and alienating millions of dollars in donation revenue that goes to useful things for the school? How about some of the most apathetic people I’ve ever met? Some students would just as soon spit on you as look at you.

The problem is SDSU isn’t a fscking school anymore, its just a business. A corporation without a soul that seeks only to gain more capital to continue funding itself into a greater mindshare and provide the Good Old Boy’s Club with more luxury and more guaranteed security after graduation. I can’t fathom why my tuition goes to pay for the Associated Students to have a $20K salary. Maybe that doesn’t sound like much, but why the fsck do they need salaries? Now I know why they try so hard to get (re-)elected.

Whatever. I’ve gotta go get ready to go to $D$U. I doubt I’ll learn anything. But I suppose thats not the point.

damn daylight savings.

Today was a pretty good day.

Lets see… where to start. Slept in pretty good… talked to mom and Lance for a while on the phone when I did get up (they’re all moving to Sacramento in a couple weeks… *sigh*). Anyways. Got up, walked Rascal in the rain for a while. Watched some TV for a while (there’s a Halloween series on TV) and then got ready for work.

Work was definitly a bit on the loony side again today (day 2 of our grand reopening sale), made all the more busy by the fact that I was working in Fish.

Not that I mind working in Fish anymore…. sometimes it can actually be quite refreshing. I do still wish there was a Bird department, though. Well, work was pretty fun, despite the fact that Juan doesn’t do a whole lot of work, and Leza was in a *really* bad mood today. I guess what made it better was that I got to know Lindsey (the actual spelling of her hame, as opposed to Lindsay) a little more. I even made her laugh! And she smiled for most of today.

She ended up buying an 80 gallon tank today (she wants a bigger tank for her snake). Problem is, these things are heavy as hell. No seriously. They’re fscking heavy. One person simply cannot lift one. So she asked me to help her with it to her house. Upstairs. Lindsey lives in a big fscking house, on top of a big fscking hill, way off deep in the heart of Horse-And-Rider-Crossing-Lakeside.

Aside – Chris, do you remember that one time we got lost in Lakeside and discovered that valley that neither of us had ever seen before in our lifetimes of living in SD? Yeah, she lives in there.

Where was I. Ah yes. (bah! my computer tells me its now 1 AM, when it was just 2 AM… damn daylight savings time…) So yeah. Get to Lindsey’s huge (they made it themselves) house – or should I say farm? It’s dark, but I distinctly hear at least one of each of the following: a goat, a cow, a horse, and some other creature whose sound I could not quite put a name to. And then the usual dogs, birds, and the reptiles all in her room.

So getting that tank into her house was a bitch. But her sense of humor definitly showed itself. I dunno, maybe it sounds like I’m obsessing or something. It’s just nice to know where you stand with people, and its always nicer to meet new people.

On that note.

Oh yeah. One more thing. CS220 is a pain in the ass, but one of the more interesting classes, I think. The assignments are retarded (and not really suited toward C… in the real world, they’d work much better as shell or Perl scripts) and often explained in an overly-complicated manner. No worries, though. It’s just a CS class. And by the by, your teacher is fscking lame.

Anyways… ni-ni.
